Bunion Surgery~Before and After

Both of my great grandfathers had bunions. I remember one of them cutting his brand new leather boots so that the bunion would not hurt so bad. Bunions are hereditary. I had two not just one.  I have hated my feet for years. I would not wear those cute sandals everyone else wore. I wanted to, but just couldn't. I got into running over a year ago and that's when my back, hips, and other things got to hurting. I thought it was just me running, but come to find out it was my feet throwing everything else out.

My left foot was 16 degrees off. In other words it was severe. The doctor could not believe I was still running. I finally decided to have the left foot done on May 23rd, 2019.  I had outpatient surgery. It took 3 hrs to do.

I had a small plate put on the outside of my foot, so that I could contine to run. I had a nerve block which was so great. I did not have to take any pain meds for 2 days afterwards. Only thing is you can't weight bear for several weeks. I go back the 19th of June to remove the cast and replace that with a boot for a couple of weeks. I go back July 12th to get the boot off. We shall see.

Next phase will be weight bearing and not sure as of yet how that will go. It's been quite a journey with this surgery. I haven't driven in 6 weeks. That is a record for me. I have always drove. So, I have had to die to what I loved to do the most.

Bunions do not get better and even if you don't run it will still keep going the way it's going. If you look at the picture six years ago and look at it on surgery day you can see a big shift. You don't just have bunion surgery to have it. You have it when it starts affecting your everyday life. Then it's time to get it. I don't regret it at all.

Muddin' Gone Wrong

My grandsons stayed with my Mama while I worked. Mama had her other grandson there also. Their ages 8, 7, and 5. It had been raining several days. The last thing I told my grandsons was to be good for your granny.

The boys had been outside riding their bikes for quite awhile. My mama went to check on them and all three were stuck in the mud in their garden. Mason got stuck and the more he pulled his boot to come out, the tighter grip the mud had on them. The others tried to get him out. One may have accidently pushed instead of pulling. Whatever happened that day may remain a mystery.

My mama came out and all she saw was them wallowing in the mud. I can't even imagine what went through her mind. Three boys covered from head to toe in mud. Mason said, "I tried to get out and the mud just sucked me in." I said, "That happens." Needless to say the mud had to come off. They had to strip all their clothes off except underwear. Mama made them all go sit on the couch and not say a word until she said so. Can you just see those boys sitting there?

They eventually got to leave the couch that day. It will be a day to remember. Mud is like glue once in there, there was no easy way out. They were trying hard to get out, but the mud won that day. I am sure they will run through mud again at some point in their lives. This is one story they will remember for a very long time.

Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a great Christmas. It's not about the presents or the tree. It is all about His presence and what He did for you and me.

Lots of people stress about the holidays. Don't! When I grew up it was about getting together with family and enjoying each others company. I miss those days. They were simple and not commercialized. Our culture has taken the fun out of everything. It's all about spending, and it should not be that way. Today I am making cookies with my grandkids. This is something I've not done in a long time. Let's put fun back into our days. Like when we were younger. Do something you haven't done in awhile. Make homemade Christmas cards. People love this and it comes from the heart.

Tell stories of long ago and share with your kids of growing up. Make those memories. They are something money can't buy. Take pictures that are treasures for years to come. Hot apple cider sounds good to me. The smell of cinnamon on the stove going through out the house. These are just a few of my favorite things.

What are somethings that you will do today that has been forgotten and put on a shelf?

Love all of you and wish you a Merry Christmas.

Behind Closed Doors

That ice has been here all night.
Aww come on I know you got something to say.
What time is it.
We got a standing ovation.
This is worse than working. Just let me get back to my hot car.
I don't know why I take the headache. I know I want to go home.
We need to see about having a reunion.
What happens if you don't show up?
Ring, ring. Don't you know your're suppose to be here. Yes sir, Yes sir.
I wonder what the sentence will be.
Don't you discuss this case with no one else.
I am ready to go home.
Y'all want to take another vote.
I'm not coming back tomorrow. I thought it would end today.
You can take another vote, but my vote is still the same.
Let's go in the box.
They might send us to another case.
I hope we don't have to come back
Did you change your mind? I said, "No."
You have the right to remain silent.
Will we get our three checks tomorrow.

Colonoscopy

Went back to my surgeon and everything checked out great with my last mammogram. He went on to ask me if I had ever had a colonoscopy? I said, no.

Needless to say before I left the office I had my surgery date scheduled. Sometimes your insurance wants you to have this because of having breast cancer in the past. So, you just bite the bullet and get it done.

As most of you might know you are given a gallon jug of liquid to drink the night before surgery. I mixed up the solution and put one packet of crystal lemon-lime in it. Then proceed to shake real well and refridgerate a few hours before drinking.

I had to drink 8 ounces of the mixture every 15 minutes. I got 3 glasses down and my stomach was already getting full. Not good!  Long story short. I drank about 75 percent of it and was worked out real good.

I had my colonoscopsy done that morning and everything checked out fine. Hooray!

Don't delay in getting this done. It could save your life.

Arimidex

November 7th I started taking arimidex for the next 5 years.
Today is the third day I have taken this. I am taking you on this journey with me as I continue on the road to my complete healing.

February 13, 2017~ My sixth month mammogram was today. All clear. Praise God!
I will have another one in 6 months on both breasts. I am already thanking God for a good report.

March 7, 2017~ I meet with the surgeon who did my lumpectomy, Praising God all the way!

May 2, 2017 ~ I had been on Fosamax once a week. I had went back to my oncologist and mentioned about taking Boniva. You only take in once a month. I had been on it about 2 weeks and knew that something was not right. My hip bones hurt terribly and I hurt in my groin area. I called my doctor and told him I was very fatigued and was not feeling well at all. To many aches that I did not have before I went on the Boniva. The doctor also wanted to check my blood and make sure nothing else was going on. He said, "He was not expecting anything to show up." He took me off the fosamax til my next appointment so my body can get rid of the boniva. So, what was suppose to be a good thing once a month turned into a not so good thing.

Later that evening I received a phone call from the nurse and she said, " My blood sugar was low" My blood sugar has never been low. Never.

After I got off the phone with her I went and looked up the side effects for boniva and found out it makes your hips and joints hurt. It also makes your sugar levels go up and down. Some people may can take boniva. I am not one of them.

So, today is August 7th, 2017. I have been back on fosamax for two weeks now. I feel really good. I just past my year mark of when I was diagnosed with breast cancer August 3, 2016. Can I get a shout out. My 6 month mammogram was great. I will have another in six months. I expect it to be the same.

I am doing this blog to help others as they go through similar cases of breast cancer. I also want to be able to look back in years to come to where God has brought me from.
